HIV Testing at Sunshine Clinic

Confidential Testing with Clear Support

Worried about HIV? Sunshine Clinic offers confidential advice for anyone concerned about a recent risk, a new partner, or simply wanting to check their status. We help you understand your options, decide when to test, and know what to expect, with sensitive support and no judgement at any stage.

Private HIV Testing You Can Trust

When you are concerned about HIV, it helps to speak to an experienced clinician who can explain things clearly. We take time to understand your circumstances, including the timing of any possible exposure and whether you have symptoms, so we can advise which HIV test is most appropriate and when to take it. Not everyone needs to test straightaway. If your risk was very recent, testing too early may not give a reliable answer, so we will always tell you honestly whether to test now or wait.

Private HIV Testing

Deciding When To Test

The right HIV test for you depends on how long ago your possible exposure happened. We explain your options clearly so you can decide with confidence, and every test we offer is available with a same-day appointment.

If Your Exposure Was Very Recent

If your risk happened in the last 72 hours, time matters. Post Exposure Prophylaxis can significantly reduce your chance of infection if started promptly, and we can advise you on this straightaway, or call us to discuss your situation.

HIV Window Period and Early Testing

If your risk was very recent, testing too early may not give you a final answer. We explain the HIV window period clearly and advise whether you should test now, return later, or arrange repeat testing for a more reliable result, so you always understand what your result means.

Which Test Might I Need?

We offer a rapid test, a 28-Day DUO test and a 10-Day PCR RNA test, each suited to a different exposure timeframe. Once we understand your circumstances, we will recommend the right HIV test option and explain same-day booking and pricing.

If You Need Support After a Positive Result

If your result is positive, we explain what this means clearly and calmly, and refer you promptly into specialist HIV treatment and ongoing care. We also discuss HIV prevention, repeat testing and practical next steps, so you feel supported and informed rather than left uncertain.

Private Sexual Health Care

Your sexual health is personal. At Sunshine Clinic, we provide respectful care, treatment advice, and ongoing support across our Birmingham, Dudley, and Worcestershire clinic locations, with your privacy, comfort, and well-being always prioritised.

Spoke to Dr Sood earlier today, he was very understanding and took his time to explain to me my options and choices and also provided me with his recommendation. Very pleasant, understanding and knowledgeable.

Thank you very much, I would definitely recommend

Confidentiality Comes First

Many patients choose private HIV testing because they want confidentiality and the chance to speak openly with an experienced clinician. Your appointment and results are always handled sensitively, and Sunshine Clinic will not contact your GP unless you ask us to. Whatever you tell us stays between you and your clinician, and we will always explain any result in plain language before discussing next steps.

What to Expect?

Your appointment begins with a confidential consultation, where we discuss your concerns, any recent risk, and whether the timing is right for a reliable HIV test result. This allows us to recommend the most suitable test and explain the process clearly before anything takes place. Once your result is ready, we contact you promptly and explain any next steps, so the experience stays clear, discreet and reassuring throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HIV testing confidential at Sunshine Clinic?

Yes. We manage your appointment, test details and results with medical confidentiality, and will not contact your GP unless you ask us to. Many patients choose private testing for exactly this reason.

Can I have an HIV test even if I have no symptoms?

Yes. Many people with HIV have no symptoms, especially early on, so testing is often the only reliable way to know your status. If unprotected sex, a new partner, or any situation has left you concerned, we advise on the right test and timing.

When should I test after possible exposure, and what is the HIV window period?

This depends on when the exposure happened. The HIV window period is the time before a test can reliably detect infection, so testing too soon may not be conclusive. We explain the window period clearly and advise whether to test now or wait.

Is HIV testing accurate?

HIV testing is highly accurate when the right test is used at the right time. Timing matters, since testing too early can affect reliability. We recommend the most appropriate test for your circumstances and advise on any follow-up needed.

What happens if my HIV test is positive?

We explain the result carefully and talk you through next steps in a calm, supportive way, including confirmatory testing and prompt referral into specialist HIV treatment and ongoing care, so you always understand what happens next.

Can Sunshine Clinic advise on HIV prevention, including after a recent risk?

Yes. We discuss prevention, repeat testing and Post Exposure Prophylaxis for very recent risks, alongside condom use and other strategies, so you feel informed and supported rather than left uncertain.
